DECADENT HOMEMADE SALTED CARAMEL SAUCE
Ingredients List
1 cup granulated sugar
6 tablespoons salted butter, room temperature
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Preparation
1
In a medium-sized saucepan, heat the granulated sugar over medium heat, stirring continuously with a spatula or wooden spoon.
2
The sugar will form clumps and eventually melt into a thick brown, amber-colored liquid as you continue to stir.
3
Be careful not to burn the sugar. Once the sugar is completely melted, add the butter. Be careful as the caramel will bubble rapidly when the butter is added.
4
Stir the butter into the caramel until it is completely melted, about 2-3 minutes.
5
Very slowly, drizzle in the heavy cream while stirring continuously. Again, be careful as the mixture will bubble rapidly and steam.
6
Allow the mixture to boil for 1 minute before removing from heat and stirring in the vanilla and salt.
7
Allow caramel sauce to cool for a few minutes before pouring into a glass jar or heat-proof container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
8
To reheat after refrigeration, place desired amount of caramel sauce into a microwave-safe dish and heat on high for 20-30 seconds. Stir until smooth before serving.
